Joseph and Sidney arrive in Kirtland. MS 14, no. 8 (Apr. 15, 1852): 114.

Kirtland, Ohio. Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon traveled from Hiram, Ohio, to Kirtland in order to follow the instructions in Doctrine & Covenants 71, a revelation about their duty to proclaim the gospel.

First counselor Jesse Gause is excommunicated, the first general authority permanently removed from office.

Kirtland. Jesse Gause, William E. McLellin, and someone named Mogan or Morgan are excommunicated in Kirtland. Joseph is present and records the event but gives no reasons.

Kirtland, Ohio. Joseph Smith and his wife, Emma Smith, visited at Thomas Carrico’s, where Joseph talked on matrimony and married Warren Parrish to Martha H. Raymond.

--1839 December 3
At a meeting of the Anointed Quorum's Sunday prayer meeting, the Prophet presented his Appeal to the Green Mountain Boys of Vermont. (Of the thirty-eight members, only Hyrum and Mary were absent.) The appeal asked Vermonters to "rise in the majesty of virtuous freemen, and by all honorable means help to bring Missouri to the bar of justice." After discussion by both men and women, the Appeal was dedicated by prayer. Origins, 116.

Sunday prayer circle meeting at noon in the upper "assembly room" of Joseph Smith's store where "all [were] present except Hyrum & his wife," and Emma Smith attended even though she "had been unwell during the night." Instead of ordinances, this was a political meeting: "The fore part of the day was taken up on the Appeal to the Green Mountain Boys. It was read by W. W. Phelps & [was] consecrated & dedicated unto God by the quorum." (BY, HC, JS-F, MAQ, MHBY, WW).

Anointed Quorum's men and women approve Joseph Smith's political Appeal to the Green Mountain Boys.

Nauvoo, Illinois. In the assembly room above the Red Brick Store, Joseph Smith and the others present prayed for his brother Hyrum Smith, who had injured his leg.

Prayer circle at night in the temple with Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, Orson Hyde, Parley P. Pratt, George A. Smith, and John Taylor (HCK). HC does not mention Taylor.

When informed that a black Mormon in Boston has married a white woman, Young tells the apostles he would have both killed if he could.

First Spanish-speaking stake established in Mexico City.
